Larissa – Adrianople
Departure at 6:30 a.m. Coffee break in Korinos at Olympus Plaza. Following the route via the Egnatia Highway, we pass by Lake Volvi and the Strymon River. Before Kavala, at the Chrysanthidis tourist shop, we’ll make our second short stop. Free time for lunch (at your own expense) in Alexandroupoli. We continue north, passing through the remote town of Didymoteicho and the modern city of Orestiada, and arrive at the Kastania customs station. After passing through Greek-Turkish border control, we cross into neighboring Turkey and visit the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, the legendary Adrianople, or Edirne in Turkish. During our tour of the city, we’ll make a stop at its old railway station (formerly Orestiada), Karagats, where we’ll have the chance to see a preserved section of the “ORIAN EXPRESS” ” as well as the monument commemorating the Treaty of Lausanne. Check-in at the hotel. Free time to rest or, for those who wish, to enjoy an authentic hammam. Transfer by coach to the Margi department store, which is open until 10:30 p.m., where you can shop or have dinner (at your own expense). Return to the hotel for the night.
Adrianople (city tour)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure and visit to the Health Museum (TO DARUSIFFA). One of the features of the sanatorium was music therapy. There, in addition to the medical knowledge of the time, they used the sound of water flowing from the fountain and beautiful melodies to help patients relax. Next, we will visit the most beautiful mosque in Turkey, the impressive Selimiye, designed by an architect of Greek descent. This is followed by a tour of the former Greek quarter and free time until 4:00 PM at the covered market (Kapalı Çarşı), where you can do your shopping and try the local syrupy sweets, kunefe, and the famous almond paste loukoumia known as badem esmezi
(badem ezmezi). Return to the hotel; free time to enjoy the hotel’s amenities or visit the spa. Optional entertainment.
Overnight.
Adrianople – Larissa
Breakfast. Free time at the shopping center from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for your last-minute shopping, and then we depart from Edirne. We continue our journey to the border post at Kastanies, and after customs clearance, we cross into Greece. Coffee stop in Orestiada. At noon, we’ll stop for lunch in Alexandroupoli. We’ll head back, making a few stops for coffee along the way, and arrive in our city in the evening.
